Since I moved to Good Place Lettings, there have been no problems. They’ve been great. I think, especially when you’re busy and you’ve got stress in your life, you don’t need extra hassle.
I had lived in my one-bedroom flat in Borough for about a year and a half when I moved in with my partner, now my husband. My cousin’s friends then lived in it very happily for about eight years. When they moved out, I decided to rent it out more formally through one of the largest agents in London.
I met Ben, who managed the property on my behalf. I really liked him, and we developed a good relationship from the start. Frustratingly, every time I rented out the flat, the tenant would leave after a year—either their job would change or they’d move overseas. Something would always happen. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, and Ben would always find me a new tenant, easing the process, so I felt confident and happy. I was gutted when he left to become Director of Good Place Lettings.
Once Ben left, my relationship with the agent deteriorated. I lost that single point of contact and that personal touch. Every time I phoned, the relevant person wasn’t there. I started to feel a real disconnect.
My tenant had complained about maintenance issues, and as a responsible landlord, I was keen to get them sorted. But when I contacted the agent, my emails went unanswered. I didn’t have a contact for my tenant, and months drifted by. More issues were reported, and I was then presented with large bills for the work that was required. When I questioned the costs, I couldn’t get any clarity.
All of this happened during a very stressful period at home due to health worries about my daughter. I told the agent what I was going through and that I needed them to take the lead in sorting out the issues with the flat. But I was being ignored. It was rapidly spiralling.
I’d had enough. I contacted Ben and asked, “Are you ready to take someone new on?”
I was worried it would be stressful to switch agents. My husband was very reluctant: “We’ve got so much going on, I think it’s just going to be loads of hassle, loads of paperwork.”
But when I spoke to Ben, he assured me it would be hassle-free—and luckily, he was right.
I barely remember lifting a finger. It was super easy and seamless. Ben said he would visit my tenant to smooth things over, as we assumed they would be really annoyed about all the delays. It turned out the tenant was fine—the problems had mainly been due to communication issues with the previous agent.
The team are all so lovely, and Charlie has been really good at keeping me updated about the flat. Another part of the appeal of Good Place Lettings was their commitment to an ethical approach.
There are just so many positives. My husband has a flat that he shares with a friend. His tenants have just given notice, and the first thing I said to him was:
“Go to Good Place Lettings!”
